卒論

I corrected my three 4^th-year Japanese students’ graduation theses. They presented them to the professors. They came to my room again and again. We e-mailed each other from early in the morning ‘til midnight. I had a meeting with the other professors about the graduation theses. They said that they should be strict with their students in order to improve the level of their papers. I will grade them. I will also prepare the questions for four 4^th-year Japanese students for whose graduation theses I am not responsible.

My third-year Japanese students came to my room on Wednesday and Sunday. Some of them studied not only for my classes but for other classes, as well. 

My Taichi teacher’s birthday was May 20^th. I marked her birthday by throwing her a party. She said that it was her first time drinking in celebration of her birthday. My friends and I ate dinner with her and her son. We had a wonderful time. She is my best friend in China.

I will go to Qingdao. There, I will meet my Japanese language teacher Professor Sasaki.

Ms. Mizue Sasaki is internationally famous. She will make a keynote address at the Congress of Linguists at the Chinese Marine University. I will see her after an interval of 11 years. I will show her my students’ notes about her book. In 1996, she wrote the other book that our circle helped her with. That was a very good stimulus for me. In 1992, we visited the late Notre-Dame University professor, Minamiki, in the U.S. He introduced me to Ms. Sasaki, a professor at Yamaguchi University. He introduced me. It was miraculously good fortune. 

４年生３人の卒論で、連日彼らが来室し、メールのやりとりも夜討ち朝駆け。やっと１８日の提出に漕ぎ着けました。１８日から教授会。今年からレベルアップのために基準を厳しくしようという話が持ち上がりました。いくつかのグループに分けて、２５日が発表会です。これから、指導していなかった学生に対して質問を考え、彼らに成績を出さなくてはなりません。　

３年生もやってきて、私が教えている教科以外の勉強を手伝ったり、話をしたりしました。

　土曜日には太極拳の先生（５月２０日生まれ。私より２歳下）の誕生会をうちでやりました。彼女は、誕生会をやってもらったのが初めてだと話していました。中国では、誕生会をやるのはお年寄り。最近は、一人っ子政策で、子供の誕生会をやるようになったようですが、おとなはやらないのだそうです。喜んでもらえてよかったです。彼女は私の中国での親友です。どことなく叔母に似ています。

明日から青島に行きます。会議に出席するためです。なんと１１年ぶりに、恩師佐々木瑞枝先生に再会します。先生は世界的にも有名な日本語教授法の教授です。思えば、１９９２年、初めてアメリカのノートルダム大学に行ったときに、故ジョージ南木先生が、山口大学の先生をご紹介下さり、その先生が、佐々木先生が横浜国大に移られるから、とご紹介下さって、プランタン銀座で１年間、佐々木先生の日本語教授法を毎週土曜日３コマ受けさせていただき、その後１年間、先生の本の出版に関わらせて頂いて以来、メールでやりとりするくらいでした。今回、中国海洋大学で、「中日非言語コミユニケーション研究国際シンポジウム」が開催されるというお知らせを頂き、先生の基調講演を拝聴するチャンスを得ました。まさか中国で再会するとは夢にも思っていませんでした。感無量です。
